JRP 3v3 Hockey Jamboree and Open Skate

Monday, February 19th, 2018, was a great day to spend at the rink. On Presidents Day, 128 hockey playing kiddos took to the ice at Enfield Twin Rinks (ETR) for the first annual Jacob Roger Poulin 3v3 Hockey Jamboree, accompanied by many friends and family who attended the Open Skate as well.

The skaters, between ages six to ten years old, played a 3v3 style jamboree. Donning their jamboree jerseys emblazoned with the number 4 and POULIN across their backs, the little hockey players played their hardest for bragging rights and a jamboree medal that matched their jersey. It was an exciting and unique event as the kids got to play three fast-paced games, just under 10 minutes in length each, and then switch over to skating with their friends and family at the Open Skate.

The idea for the event all started when Grace Love, who is best friends with Jacob’s cousin Julia Nicolescu, suggested an Open Skate to her mother Kelly. While talking about what this event could look like, the 3v3 Jamboree and Open Skate idea was born. From that moment on, Kelly Love, Casey Reynolds, the 2008 CT Junior Huskies, and many of their friends and family organized and executed one of the largest fundraising events the Jacob Roger Poulin Foundation has benefitted from to date! With the jamboree, open skate, raffle, general donations, silent auction of an outdoor rink (thank you Kathy McGrail Family and Savol!), bake sale, and our amazing sponsors (listed below), this event raised $10,007.49! INCREDIBLE! We were just under $10,000 when a generous family on the 2008 CT Junior Huskies donated the remaining amount to put us over the top! There is nothing like the family you are joined with when you are part of the hockey community!

An extremely large thank you to Kelly Love and Casey Reynolds for conceptualizing, organizing, and being the glue that held together this entire event! An equally large thank you to Carol Lessard and the owners of ETR; without Carol’s direction and support, and the generous donation of the ice time by the owner’s of ETR, this event would not have been possible. Thank you to the E.O. Smith Bucks players for refereeing a good portion of the games, as well as to all of the other volunteers that made this event run so smoothly. Finally, a ginormous thank you to all the players and families that attended the first annual JRP 3v3 Jamboree and Open Skate! Your faith and support in this event made it all possible. We are so very blessed to be a part of such an amazing community and can’t wait to make J4cob’s Park a reality.
